original work

Maya is a movement and theatre maker who creates highly theatrical, design-heavy choreographic works. As an interdisciplinary artist with a passion for sound design and nontraditional lighting, she frequently creates soundtracks for her pieces and explores handheld lighting controlled by dancers. She is inspired by the cross-disciplinary work of artists like Crystal Pite, ThirdRail Projects, and DV8 Physical Theatre, and holds a strong interest in bringing highly physical work into site-specific and immersive contexts.

She is in process for a new evening-length dance theatre work called Factory Floor.

In addition to her original choreographic works, Maya has recently begun to explore writing plays. Her first purely text based work, Witch Play, is a loose theatrical adaptation of Pablo Aguero's 2020 film Akelarre. The piece had one book-in-hand, semi-staged reading at The Gear Factory in Central New York in the fall of 2025, and looks forward to further development soon.

In both 2023 and 2026, Maya was one of twelve choreographers in New York State to receive the NYS Dance Force Choreographer's Initiative, which offered her 20 hours of residency accompanied by a mentor of her choice. These opportunities allowed her to develop new work under the guidance of mentors Kelly Bartnik and Adam Barruch. She greatly credits the NYS Dance Force for supporting her development as an emerging choreographer.

This page is under construction, but will soon feature a gallery of works.
