Maya is an emerging movement and theatre maker who creates highly theatrical, design-heavy choreographic works. As an interdisciplinary artist with a passion for sound design and nontraditional lighting, she frequently creates soundtracks for her pieces and explores handheld lighting controlled by dancers. She is inspired by the cross-disciplinary work of artists like Crystal Pite, ThirdRail Projects, and DV8 Physical Theatre, and holds a strong interest in bringing text and movement together in site-specific and immersive contexts. Recent mentorships with choreographers Kimberly Bartosik and Adam Barruch have greatly shaped her trajectory.
Maya collaborates frequently with composers, and looks forward to collaborating with Paul Leary on "Divine Right of Kings" at the Rochester Institute of Technology's Glassbox Theatre in 2025.
